St. Louis Cardinals shortstop David Eckstein is an all-out player who has been successful despite lacking some talent. He has a short compact swing that allows him to generate bat speed and some power in his line drives. He manages the strike zone well also. In the field, he has above average range and an average arm at best, but his mechanics are top notch and his hustle gives him a security blanket to cover some of his deficiencies.

Tampa Bay Devil Rays left-hander Scott Kazmir has had a difficult first half, but he looked much better in his start against the Los Angeles Angels. Kazmir, who has a similar delivery to that of New York Mets? starter Oliver Perez, has a terrific fastball that resides at around 92-93 mph. He locates it well and has good confidence it in. He also sports an above average slider and an average change-up that he can use to keep hitters off balance. However, on this night, it was his fastball that dictated at-bats and was his out pitch all night.

Cincinnati Reds right-fielder Ken Griffey Jr. is having a rebirth of a season and is showing no signs of slowing down in 2007. His bat speed has been excellent for some time now and with fully healthy legs, he has the ability to drive the ball again. Griffey was always at his best when he wasn?t trying to hit home runs and he has found his way back into that grove with his short stroke and excellent tempo. The move to right-field has helped greatly because it has made him a better defender with less responsibilities and has saved his legs for the hot summer months.
