By Douglas Benton The Interleague portion of the schedule is now complete and once again, it was an American League dominated affair. With the All-Star game just a few weeks away now, see which teams are hot going into the break and which ones are not. 1. Los Angeles Angels (49-27) They have won four straight and have two potential All-Star game starters in John Lackey and Kelvim Escobar. 2. Boston Red Sox (48-26) The Red Sox took two of three at San Diego over the weekend and for the moment, pushed the Yankee pressure down for a little while. 3. Detroit Tigers (45-29) Manager Jim Leyland won?t say it, but this year?s team is better than the 2006 version, which is scary for the rest of baseball. 4. Arizona Diamondbacks (44-32) They have won seven out of ten games and taken control of the ever-changing NL West at week?s end. 5. Milwaukee Brewers (43-32) Outfielder Corey Hart has an 11 game hitting streak and providing the Brewers with another bat in the order. 6. San Diego Padres (42-32) Starter Chris Young is a bona fide Cy Young award contender at 7-3 and a team best 2.08 ERA. 7. Cleveland Indians (43-31) Designated Hitter Travis Hafner is hitting only .255 with average power numbers as the Indians desperately need him to turn it around soon. 8. New York Mets (41-32) A home sweep of the Oakland Athletics is cause for celebration, as it is their first home series sweep since last August. 9. Los Angeles Dodgers (42-31) The rotation needs Chad Billingsley to step in quickly if they hope to be strong enough to carry this team into the playoffs. 10. Minnesota Twins (38-35) An injury to Justin Morneau is terrible news in Minnesota, but the good is that catcher Joe Mauer?s bat started to heat up over the weekend. 11. Philadelphia Phillies (39-36) The Phillies haven?t gone a great run, but steady play has put them in prime position to take the NL East. 12. Seattle Mariners (39-33) Closer J.J. Putz has 21 saves and a 1.08 ERA at the end of games for the Mariners this season. 13. Toronto Blue Jays (37-37) Designated Hitter Frank Thomas has hit .348 with three home runs and nine RBI in his last six games for the Blue Jays. 14. Colorado Rockies (38-37) The week started out great with a sweep of the New York Yankees, but ended terribly by being swept at Toronto. 15. Oakland Athletics (39-35) A tough week that started with the revoking of the Milton Bradley trade ended in a bad sweep against the New York Mets. 16. Atlanta Braves (38-38) They have been shut out in four of their last five games and have lost seven out of ten. This is definitely a make or break point in their season. 17. New York Yankees (36-37) They lost five out of six games this week and had to use Roger Clemens in relief on Sunday. They just keep teasing the baseball world. 18. Chicago Cubs (35-39) They swept their cross-town rival and Carlos Zambrano is filthy right now. This is a team to watch coming out of the break. 19. Florida Marlins (36-40) This team has the makings of being able to have a late season run, but a lack of pitching production leaves them as a question mark. 20. St. Louis Cardinals (33-39) The St. Louis Cardinals are just pesky enough to warrant some attention, but not good enough to be taken seriously for the playoffs. 21. Houston Astros (32-43) Outfielder Hunter Pence is a bona fide rising in all of baseball. He has entered the conversation of best young outfielders in the game. 22. Tampa Bay Devil Rays (33-40) They will probably be relegated to fourth in the AL East for the rest of the season, but manager Joe Maddon and his staff should be commended on a job well done thus far. 23. San Francisco Giants (32-42) Even with two straight wins against the Yankees over the weekend, the Giants still have major offensive and bullpen holes to address before they get back in this race. 24. Washington Nationals (32-43) First baseman Dmitri Young is batting .339 and slugging over .500 for the Nationals this season. 25. Pittsburgh Pirates (31-44) Starters Ian Snell and Tom Gorzelanny are showing the potential of being a strong one-two punch at the top of the Pirates? rotation. 26. Texas Rangers (30-45) The Rangers have won seven out of ten games and hold the best two relievers on the market in Eric Gagne and Akinori Otsuka. 27. Kansas City Royals (30-46) The signings of Gil Meche and Octavio Dotel are proving to be worth the money so far this season. 28. Baltimore Orioles (32-43) They got shunned by Joe Girardi and now Miguel Tejada?s consecutive games streak has come to an end. This is just another tough week for the Orioles. 29. Chicago White Sox (29-42) They scored only two runs against the Chicago Cubs and rank last in all of baseball in runs, batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. 30. Cincinnati Reds (29-47) What a great weekend Ken Griffey Jr. had in his return to Seattle. Hopefully the Reds will do the right thing and trade him to a contender soon.
