Yuli Gurriel Takes Pay Cut To Remain With Astros

The Houston Astros and Yuli Gurriel have agreed to a one-year contract with an option for 2022 that guarantees $7 million, a cut of nearly 20% from his 2020 deal.

Gurriel's 2020 contract called for an $8.3 million salary and wound up being worth $3,074,074 prorated.

His new deal includes a $6.5 million salary for 2021 and an $8 million club option for 2021 with a $500,000 buyout.

The veteran reported to the Braves' alternate training site in Gwinnett, Georgia.

The San Francisco Giants released Sandoval last week.

Jake Lamb To Sign With A's

The Oakland Athletics are expected to sign Jake Lamb once he qualifies for free agency on Monday.

Lamb was designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. He was hitting .116/.240/.140 in 18 games.

The A's will be without Matt Chapman for the remainder of the season following hip surgery.

Nationals Give GM Mike Rizzo Three-Year Extension

The Washington Nationals have given a three-year contract extension to president and general manager Mike Rizzo, the team announced Saturday.

Rizzo's contract was set to expire at the end of this season.

"We are thrilled that Mike will continue to lead our club," Nationals principal owner Mark Lerner said in a statement. "He guided us through the early years of building this franchise into what it is today -- a perennial contender that brought a World Series championship home to Washington, D.C., last season.

"I look forward to continuing our strong working relationship for years to come."
