John Smoltz will skip Wednesday's scheduled start for the Braves because of a sore shoulder. Plagued by elbow problems throughout his career, Smoltz returned to the Braves' rotation this season after three-plus years as the team's closer. He has made every scheduled start, going 14-7 with a 3.02 ERA and making the NL All-Star team. But Smoltz's shoulder tightened up a couple of starts ago, and the Braves decided it would be good to get him some extra rest with the postseason looming.
