Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Miguel Rojas will return for his final major league season after signing a one-year, $5.5 million contract. The 36-year-old veteran hit a crucial game-tying home run in the ninth inning of Game 7 during the World Series, helping propel the Dodgers to their second consecutive championship.
A league source confirmed the deal on Wednesday. El Extra Base first reported the signing. Rojas is expected to transition into a player development role with Los Angeles after retiring.
The veteran indicated his desire to finish his career with the Dodgers immediately after winning back-to-back titles. He debuted with Los Angeles in 2014 before being traded to the Miami Marlins in one of Andrew Friedman's first moves as president of baseball operations.
"This is my priority," Rojas said. "I want to sign here. I already told the guys my desire to be with this organization. I think we deserve another run."
Rojas rejoined the Dodgers before the 2023 season and became an important veteran presence. He served as the everyday shortstop in his first year back before transitioning to a bench role over the past two seasons.
The utilityman posted a 106 OPS+ over the last two seasons, the best offensive stretch of his career. He primarily faced left-handed pitching and is expected to maintain a similar platoon role in 2026.
Rojas originally joined the Dodgers as a minor league free agent after signing internationally with the Cincinnati Reds out of Venezuela. He entered free agency for the first time this winter after signing a contract extension with Los Angeles in 2023.
His Game 7 heroics cemented his legacy with the franchise. With two outs in the ninth inning and the Dodgers facing elimination, Rojas pulled a Jeff Hoffman slider over the bullpen at Rogers Centre to tie the game. Los Angeles won 5-4 in 11 innings.
The Dodgers have also expressed interest in retaining free agent Kike Hernandez.
