The San Diego Padres clinched a playoff berth on Sunday afternoon when the Miami Marlins defeated the Milwaukee Brewers.

They clinched while batting in the seventh inning of their game against the Chicago White Sox.

"It's a been a long time since we've been in this spot," said Joe Musgrove, who grew up a Padres fan. "It's pretty crazy how it all worked out -- I end up back here in a year where we've got a team like we have to make it this far."

San Diego is one game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies for the second of three National League wild cards.

The Padres won a wild-card series in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season before being swept in the division series by the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
