The Boston Red Sox and Rafael Devers were reportedly $100 million apart in talks about a contract extension prior to the start of the season.

According to a new report, the Red Sox viewed Matt Olson's extension with the Atlanta Braves as a model for a Devers deal.

Olson signed an eight-year, $168 million extension with the Braves just a day after the club acquired him in a trade with the Oakland Athletics.

Both Devers and Olson are in the same service-time class, and were under control through the 2023 via a final year of arbitration eligibility.
