Kyle Schwarber is expected to become a free agent this offseason after he declines a mutual option in his contract for 2022.

Schwarber was non-tendered by the Chicago Cubs last winter and then signed a one-year deal with the Washington Nationals with the option. He is open to re-signing with the Boston Red Sox after coming over in a trade.

"It'd be pretty stupid not to think about [returning]," Schwarber said. "My team here has been unbelievable. … If they feel like they would like to talk about [a new deal], I'd be all ears. I just think it would be stupid to 'X' someone off for no reason. Especially for a place like this, I'd be all ears."
