With Opening Day roughly two weeks away, the New York Mets have begun discussing a possible contract extension with Francisco Lindor.

The timing is important because to this point Lindor has said he won't discuss a new contract once the season begins.

Lindor categorized the negotiations as "just talking" and said they were "between the front office and my agent."

The Mets acquired Lindor in a six-player trade with the Cleveland Indians in January. If he doesn't agree to a long-term deal, Lindor would become a free agent after the season.
