J.D. Martinez has opted into the remainder of his contract with the Boston Red Sox.

Martinez could have become a free agent, but will instead make $19,375,000 in each of the next two seasons.

The 33-year-old hit .213 in the pandemic-shortened season with seven homers and 27 RBIs, his lowest output since 2013.

His deal also gives him the ability to opt out after the 2021 World Series.
