The Chicago Cubs and Javier Baez have suspended talks on a long-term extension during Major League Baseball's shutdown because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Baez is scheduled to hit free agency after the 2021 season.

The infielder did say that his representatives and the Cubs had "really good" discussions about a long-term contract extension earlier this year.

"Obviously, we want to reach an agreement," Baez said. "But right now everything is on hiatus. Just like it happened with baseball, we decided to leave it there. We haven't talked about it anymore."
