The New York Yankees bested the Los Angeles Angels 9-1 on Thursday night to clinch their first American League East title since 2012.

"We got a lot bigger fish to fry, but this is the first step along the way," Aaron Boone said. "Nothing has got in their way. Whatever has come adversity-wise, they faced it and powered right through it."

The Yankees notched their 100th win of the season despite placing 30 players on the injured list this year.

Boone is the first manager in Major League history to win 100 games in each of his first two seasons.

The Yankees will open the playoffs on Oct. 4.
