There is "considerable interest" in Major League Baseball adding advertising patches to uniforms.

The NBA has had success selling patches the last few years and the expectation is that they'll become commonplace in baseball within three years.

"We're examining the patch, but clearly we have things to work through first," said Noah Garden, MLB executive vice president of business and sales. "I'd say it's inevitable down the road, but certainly not immediate. This is something that requires a fairly long runway. There are lots of things to take into consideration, but I think we will get there."

Advertising patches would need the MLBPA's approval and the current collective bargaining agreement does not expire until December 2021.
