The Chicago White Sox will extend protective netting to both foul poles this summer.

The decision comes a week after a woman at Guaranteed Rate Field was struck in the head by a foul ball and hospitalized.

According to sources, owner Jerry Reinsdorf spearheaded the plan. Officials from other teams expect it to have a cascading effect throughout the league.

One source with knowledge of installing netting believes other teams could retrofit their stadiums before the end of the season.
