The Washington Nationals offered Bryce Harper a 10-year, $300 million contract, but it had $100 million in money that would be deferred until he was 65 years old.

"I grew up in front of those fans and that city, and I enjoyed every minute of it," Harper said. "But I didn't know if I fit into their plans. About $100 million of that contract was deferred 'til I was 65 years old.

"It's like, 'What does that do for me? What does that do for my family?'"

Harper eventually agreed to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies on a 13-year, $330 million contract.
