Jim Crane says the Houston Astros are planning to look into contract extensions for Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole.

Both Cole and Verlander are set to become free agents at season's end.

"We're certainly going to look at it, either now or as the season progresses, depending on what they want to do," Crane said. "Both those guys are good pitchers. They should be good pitchers down the road.

"We'll always try to take a look at those guys and see if we can extend them."

Verlander, 36, is owed $28 million this season. Cole, 28, will earn $13.5 million after winning his his arbitration case.
