The Cleveland Indians don't know when Josh Donaldson will be ready to contribute on the field, but he says he's getting closer to his debut.

Donaldson was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday. He's played in only 36 games because of shoulder and calf issues this season.

"It's been difficult," he said. "If I was writing a book, it's not how I would have wanted it to go, but hopefully it has a happy ending."

Donaldson took batting practice, ran the bases and did agility drills Sunday.

"I'm excited because my body's come to the point now where I feel very much comfortable in going out there and playing -- and not just playing at an ordinary level -- but at a very high level as well," he said.
