The Texas Rangers have agreed to a multiyear contract extension with Jon Daniels to remain as the club's general manager.

The Rangers missed the playoffs last season and entered Thursday's action at 27-37. However, the club has made their only two World Series appearances during Daniels' 13-year tenure.

"There is a definite sense of urgency, not for a quick fix by any stretch ... but a sense of urgency in everything that we do to make progress, to put building blocks in place and keep going," Daniels said. "Our focus has been on just re-establishing a foundation for a long-term sustainable model to win here for a long time."

Daniels, who is also the team's president of baseball operations, was only under contract through the end of this season.
