The New York Mets batted out of order Wednesday against the Cincinnati Reds after a discrepancy in lineup cards.

The mishap ended a potential first-inning rally in an eventual 2-1 loss in 10 innings.

"It's frustrating," Mickey Callaway said. "It probably cost us the game. We had a chance to score in the first, and we didn't."

After Wilmer Flores struck out for the second out of the inning, Asdrubal Cabrera reached on a ground-rule double.

Reds interim manager Jim Riggleman then immediately approached plate umpire Gabe Morales with his lineup card.

After a brief exchange, Morales ruled Jay Bruce, the next batter in New York's lineup, automatically out to end the inning. Bruce officially was ruled out as 2-unassisted, and Cabrera was not credited with a double in the scorebook.

In the lineup posted publicly and on the wall in the Mets' dugout, Flores was batting second, with Cabrera batting third. But in the handwritten lineup card presented to umpires, Cabrera was batting second, followed by Flores.
