The Washington Nationals have agreed to a contract extension with Mike Rizzo.
The general manager was in the final year of his contract.
Rizzo is now under contract through the 2020 season as Washington's GM and president of baseball operations.
"I'm proud of the progress we've made in Washington, DC, building the Nationals from nearly expansion status into one of the winningest clubs in Major League Baseball," Rizzo wrote in a statement. "I appreciate the Lerner family for giving me the continued opportunity to see what we can accomplish in the future."
The Nationals hired Rizzo as assistant GM in 2006. He became GM in 2009 and was promoted again in 2013.
