Bartolo Colon allowed a single run in six innings in his debut with the Texas Rangers.

It was the best performance the Rangers have enjoyed from a starter for far this season.

The Rangers are leaning towards keeping Colon, 44, to fortify their rotation.

"I'm leaning that way to hold our depth, and, hey, he pitched well," Jon Daniels said. "I don't want to overlook that part. This early in the season, I'm more of the mind-set to add to our depth rather than to take it away. Injuries and circumstances happen, and they happen quick during the year."

The Rangers will need to create a roster spot on Thursday so Martin Perez (elbow) can come off the disabled list. If they designated Colon for assignment, they'd risk losing him to a waiver claim.
