The Detroit Tigers were in on Yoenis Cespedes before they signed Justin Upton this winter, according to a report.

The Tigers were open to bringing Cespedes back, but liked Upton "slightly more." They offered Cespedes a four-year deal, but might have extended it to five years had they not reached an agreement with Upton.

Upton received a six-year, $132.75 million deal.

Cespedes ended up signing a three-year deal with the New York Mets with an opt-out after the 2016 season.
