J.D. Martinez won't be a free agent until after the 2017 season, but the Detroit Tigers are interested in signing him to a long-term deal now.

"I would love to play in Detroit the rest of my career," Martinez said. "But I leave the business part to my agent."

Al Avila would not say whether the Tigers have approached the outfielder about such a deal.

"I don't really want to get into our conversations with the players or their agents at this point," Avila said. "Usually we don't make those comments. I can tell you we would have interest in something like that."
