Despite indications that they will not sign anyone before Spring Training opens later this week, the Philadelphia Phillies are very much in contention to sign A.J. Burnett, according to sources.

It is unclear if the two sides are close to a deal, but the chances have improved since Ruben Amaro said, "It's more likely we'll go [into Spring Training] with what we've got."
