The MLB is expected to discuss banning collisions at homeplate this winter.

With concussions becoming an issue lawsuits are forcing leagues to address, questions of safety are becoming a relevant issue.

"At this point, I don't know who would argue to keep it, or what their argument would be," said one team official who believes general managers will address the topic at their meetings next month. "There is no reasoned argument to keep it [in the game]."

Buster Posey's ankle was shattered in 2011 in a plate collision and has been vocal in calling for a ban on the play.

Billy Beane has publicly said that his catchers are instructed to protect themselves rather than block the plate.

Mike Matheny, current manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, had his career plagued by concussions and is in support of a ban.
