Xander Bogaerts, who played a majority of the season in the minor leagues, played a huge role for the Boston Red Sox as they won the American League pennant on Saturday night.

In Game 6, Bogaerts had a double and drew two walks. He scored two of Boston's five runs against the Detroit Tigers.

"You know, in the first walk he lays off a two-strike slider [from Max Scherzer] that was just off the plate," John Farrell said of the rookie. "And it was a moment where you saw -- I think [Alex] Avila might have said something to him, he looked at him and nodded his head -- that he saw the pitch, took it, worked a walk. But much like we've gotten reports all year long from our development staff that he's beyond his years. He's got a bright, bright future."

Bogaerts, who turned 21 on Oct. 1, hit .250/.320/.364 in 50 plate appearances during the regular season.

In the playoffs, the infielder is 3-for-6 with five walks, three doubles, seven runs scored and just one strikeout.

"It says it all when [Farrell] puts him in the starting lineup in these big games," Jacoby Ellsbury told RealGM of the youngster. "He has had tremendous at-bats throughout this postseason."
