The New York Yankees have placed Francisco Cervelli on the disabled list with a broken right hand.

Cervelli broke the hand on Friday night against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The catcher left the game after just five pitches and underwent surgery Saturday morning at New York Presbyterian Hospital. He is expected to be out for six weeks.

In a related move, the Yankees have recalled Austin Romine from Triple-A Scranton.

Romine is hitting .333/.391/.405 with a home run in 42 minor league at-bats this season.

He was New York's second round pick out of high school back in 2007.
