Rafael Furcal has an inflamed right elbow ligament, which leaves the Cardinals vulnerable at shortstop just four weeks before Opening Day.

He will likely have a consultation with Dr. James Andrews.

Furcal, 35, is in the final season of a two-year, $14-million contract he signed in Dec. 2011.
