Rafael Soriano opted out of his contract with the Yankees after the season. He would have made $14 million in 2013 had he remained with the team.

Seeking long-term security and more money, the market for closers has left Soriano without a contract thus far and reportedly not many suitors.

"We're seeing mid-level players make $13 million a year. The value of a closer, you would have to argue, has historically been more valuable than what you see in mid-level players," Scott Boras said.
