The Pirates are making an effort to sign Russell Martin away from the Yankees.

The Rangers and Mariners are also suitors for Martin, but he is expected to choose between New York and Pittsburgh.

It has been reported that he could make a decision before next week's winter meetings.

The Pirates may be willing to offer Martin a three-year, $25 million deal. The Yankees aren't likely to offer anything close to that.
