The Diamondbacks, who acquired Heath Bell in a trade with the Marlins and A's on Saturday afternoon, are expected to use him as their eighth-inning option.

The plan may not go over smoothly with Bell, who was upset that Miami wouldn't restore him to the closer position in the second half of a disappointing 2012 season.

Prior to Saturday's trade, Arizona picked up the option on J.J. Putz's deal for 2013.

Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said that Bell can help "get the ball to J.J. Putz."
