The Cardinals are on the cusp of their second-straight appearance in the World Series despite losing Albert Pujols in free agency last winter.

Pujols signed a 10-year contract with the Angels worth a minimum of $250 million and 10 more years in a personal service deal after his playing days.

St. Louis wanted to retain their franchise player. They offered Pujols seven guaranteed years and three more at the slugger's option. That was one of the many offers of varying lengths and values that were on the table.
