The Pirates are still trying to formulate an offseason plan for Gerrit Cole.

"We've got to spend some time with him and see where we can place him," Neal Huntington said.

Pittsburgh made Cole the first overall pick in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft.

"The biggest lesson is, Triple-A (batters) can hit 100 mph (pitches)," Huntington added. "If you keep coming with 100 mph, they're going to keep hitting it. You've got to use all your pitches. What's good about Gerrit is, he's so capable of doing that. He's capable of thrown all four pitches for strikes in any count, but he's also capable of throwing a 94 mph power sinker and getting a double play when he gives up a leadoff single. Things snowballed on him, things got a little quick for him. He's going to be better for it."
