Within 72 hours after the World Series ends, the Nationals will have to decide whether or not to pick up the $10 million option on Adam LaRoche's contract for the 2013 season.

LaRoche leads Washington in home runs and OPS. It's a mutual option, so LaRoche could then opt out.

According to an official of one team that spoke with Washington, they have kicked around the idea of hanging on to LaRoche and keeping Bryce Harper in center, or signing Michael Bourn this winter, shifting Harper to a corner and trading Michael Morse.
