The Rays have designated Hideki Matsui for assignment. Tampa Bay made the move to make room for Ryan Roberts, who was acquired in a deal with the Diamondbacks. The Rays have 10 days to trade Matsui, release him or place him on waivers. Matsui is hitting .147 with two homers and seven RBIs in 95 at-bats.
