Brandon McCarthy, who is on the disabled list with a shoulder problem, will be a free agent after the season. McCarthy and his family are comfortable in the Bay Area and the right-hander would like to remain with the Athletics. He wouldn't mind discussing a contract extension with the team even though he isn't in a strong bargaining position. "It's something I'm not at all opposed to," McCarthy said. "I like it here. The fans have been great with me and with Amanda, I like the guys on the team, and I'd like to be around guys like Tommy Milone and Jarrod Parker and be part of something here."
