Josh Hamilton wants the Rangers to pay him like an elite player, but if the two sides are going to agree on some sort of long-term deal he'll have to assume some of the risk. The slugger's history of injury and drug problems make him too unstable for a $200 million contract like that of Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder and Joey Votto. Because of that, Hamilton will have to accept the possibility of a shorter deal, perhaps with team options.
