The Rays are giving Tim Beckham some time at second base this spring in order to perhaps speed up his track to the Major Leagues. Beckham is a natural shortstop. "We've been working at it just to try and give him a little more versatility," manager Joe Maddon said. "We often talk about the guys that have played multiple positions in the past, you never know what's going to open up if there's a need and if a guy is swinging bat well, you don't want to say our shortstop position is fine, but we might need some help at second base, whatever. So we just want to expose him to something else." The Rays drafted Beckham with the first overall pick in 2008. "Whatever they want me to do I'm all for it," he said.
