The Nationals would like to sign Ryan Zimmerman to a long-term contract.
Zimmerman "has informed the team of the exact terms he would accept long-term," according to a report.
An agreement between the two sides is within reach, according to two sources.
Zimmerman, 27, hit .289 with 12 homers last season in 101 games. The third baseman is scheduled to be paid $12 million next season and $14 million for the following year.
