After making an error in the ninth inning of his team's loss to the Rangers in Game 2 of the World Series on Thursday night, Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols dodged reporters in the clubhouse. St. Louis led 1-0 heading into the ninth inning and was just a few outs away from a 2-0 series lead. Pujols whiffed on a cutoff throw, which aided in the Rangers' two-run ninth inning. Cardinals closer Jason Motte, in his third full season, blew the save by giving up a bloop single to Ian Kinsler and the line-drive single to Elvis Andrus whose relay Pujols botched. Instead of remaining in the clubhouse to take the heat off his younger teammates, Pujols threw them into the fire. Motte talked for nearly 30 minutes, tackling the same questions again and again. One Cardinals player, asked why Pujols left, shrugged his shoulders. Another question, about whether that bothered him, produced a smile.
