Anthony Rizzo, 21, is playing first base for the Padres after being called up recently. San Diego acquired Rizzo from Boston in the blockbuster trade that sent All-Star Adrian Gonzalez to the Red Sox. Padres general manager Jed Hoyer doesn't want Rizzo to try to replace Gonzalez, no matter how often they are linked. "One of the advantages is Anthony is a very grounded person," Hoyer said. "He knows he can't replace Adrian, at least anytime soon, so he's trying to be the best first baseman he can and not worry about that. We've emphasized that to him, too. Don't try to go out there and replace Adrian Gonzalez. Adrian Gonzalez at 21 years old was toiling in Triple-A. It took Adrian a number of years before he really established himself as a major-league player. He had two years where he got traded and kicked around a bit before eventually establishing himself with his third team. Don't feel you need to replace the Adrian Gonzalez we see on the field now. Go ahead and be yourself. I think he'll do a very good job of that."
