Rays right-hander James Shields struggled in 2010, but he has rebounded this season. Shields ranks fifth in the American League with an ERA of 2.01 ERA. He had a 5.18 ERA for Tampa Bay last season. Since 2007, Shields is one of only five major league pitchers with at least 200 innings and 150 strikeouts per year. "Last year was weird," Shields said. "I made some really, really good pitches, and they just seemed to dump it over second base or dump it over shortstop. Or I got the groundballs I needed, but they were right through the hole. It's just one of those things." Among 92 qualifying big league starters last season, Shields sported a .334 batting average on balls in play (or BABIP), the highest in the game.
