Despite the success of Bartolo Colon this spring, the Yankees remain mum on who will be their fourth and fifth starters this season.
Colon, 37, has a 2.40 ERA, having allowed four runs over 15 innings.
"That's the Bartolo that I remember," manager Joe Girardi said. "The guy who had outstanding command of his fastball, didn't walk people and didn't beat himself.
"I've been pleasantly surprised with how he's thrown the baseball. You want guys to be able to throw strikes. You want there to be swings and misses, be able to put guys away, be able to control the running game and you want them to be able to stay healthy. This decision's going to be difficult. We have a little time to sort it out, and we'll sort it out."
Officially, it's been Colon competing with Ivan Nova, Freddy Garcia and Sergio Mitre for the final two spots in New York's rotation.
"I can't tell you when we're going to make the decision yet," general manager Brian Cashman said. "I can just tell you that the next two days, they're obviously important for each individual, in Bartolo's case and in Sergio's case, to show us what they can do and how well they can continue it."
