The Philadelphia Phillies entered the bidding late, but have successfully landed the top target of the 2010 free agent class in Cliff Lee. Lee will accept substantially less money than the $150 million, seven-year contract offered by the Yankees. Lee agreed to a five-year deal with a vesting option for a sixth season that could bring the total to $120 million. Lee was acquired by Philadelphia in 2009 and helped lead the team to the World Series, but he was traded to Seattle last offseason. After coming over to the Rangers in a July trade, Lee eventually helped his new club reach their first World Series in franchise history. Lee will join Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Cole Hamels to create one of the finest starting fours in recent history. The Phillies were eliminated form the 2010 NLCS by the Giants, who also own a formidable starting rotation of their own.
