The Diamondbacks cut ties with Eric Byrnes on Friday to make room for free-agent acquisition Adam LaRoche. Byrnes has been a major disappointment since his three-year, $30 million extension kicked in at the start of the 2008 season. Arizona designated Byrnes for assignment. They are still responsible for his $11 million salary in 2010 and have 10 days to either trade him or release him.
