The Royals were not expected to offer catcher John Buck a contract by Saturday night's deadline. The decision appeared to be a foregone conclusion on Friday when Kansas City agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal with free-agent catcher Jason Kendall. If the team doesn't offer him a contract, Buck will become a free agent eligible to sign with any team.
