Japanese pitcher Ryota Igarashi has filed for free agency, saying that he wants to play in the United States.
He plays for the Yakult Swallows.
A total of 87 players filed for free agency in Japan on Monday. Players must wait nine years in order to do so.
Igarashi, 30, went 3-2 with three saves and a 3.19 ERA in 56 games in 2009.
