The Cubs want Jeff Jeff Samardzija in their starting rotation next season. ''Hopefully, he comes to camp next year and competes for a job in our rotation. It'd be wonderful,'' Lou Piniella said. ''I think that's the consensus [to make him a starter]. I know he's been back and forth, according to the needs of the major-league team, but I think now that we've seen him here over the last couple of years in bits and pieces, that's the general consensus.''
