Freddy Sanchez has played in just 24 games with the Giants since arriving in a trade from the Pirates.
The infielder is battling left shoulder issues, and is hitting .277 in San Francisco.
The Giants have an $8.1 million option on Sanchez's contract for 2010 and he realizes it is not a given for the club to exercise that option.
He said the knee and shoulder issues have prevented him from maintaining his strength in the weight room.
"I'm not as strong as I want to be," Sanchez said. "But here we are, deep in this race, and I feel I can do more."
