It'll take a three-year guaranteed contract to land Matt Morris, and the Giants know the prerequisite after offering such a deal to Esteban Loiaza, who then signed with the A's. General manager Brian Sabean made two offers to Morris' agent, Barry Axelrod, before returning to San Francisco on Thursday afternoon, and they talked again late at night. "We'll probably be in and out of the Morris situation in a short period of time," Sabean said. "In a perfect world, less than 48 hours." Axelrod also was waiting for an offer from the Cardinals, the only big-league team for which Morris has pitched. The Cardinals offered him arbitration Wednesday to keep alive their negotiating rights and seemed willing to present a three-year offer in the $25 million range. The Rangers and Mariners are in the hunt, too.
